Cocktails Out and About

While our focus is mainly on the home cocktail enthusiast, we love to get out, enjoy a great cocktail and make new friends. Come along and discover some of our favorite places and cocktails in our neighborhood and across the country as we enjoy a cocktail while we're out. From hidden speakeasies to upscale bars, distillery tasting rooms and brew pubs, we'll explore the world of fine spirits and craft cocktails together.

Green Lady Lounge

The Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City is a classic jazz lounge where the ambiance is as smooth as the spirits. With its dark wood, vintage lighting, and eclectic flair, it provides the perfect backdrop for exploring craft cocktails while grooving to live local jazz. Whether you're there for the music or the mixology, it's an experience that's the perfect setting for a great night out with friends or that special someone.

Alice

Take me to the rabbit hole... that little phrase opened a a world of whimsy, wonder and incredible craft cocktatils at Alice in Omaha, Nebraska. This classic speakeasy is designed to transport you to a storybook setting where every cocktail tells a tale. From flaming tableside spectacles to intimate spirits that set the mood, discover the magic in every sip.

Lucid, Uncle Kevin's favorite absinthe, and an exquisite absinthe fountain

Absinthe Room

The green fairy, the stuff of myth and legend, rumored to drive men mad. The reality- the bohemians who were indulging in absinthe were often indulging in other, more harmful vices not to mention the toxic substances in many of the artists' paints. The Absinthe Room is our favorite stop on Beale Street in Memphis.  Dedicated to the storied legacy of the Green Fairy, in addition to numerous absinthes, they also offer a nice selection of other cocktails and beer. With a good selection of cigars, they are one of the few places where I'll indulge.

What mysteries await as you ascend the stairs?

You never know what seedy characters lurk in the darkness.

A little absinthe, sugar, and ice cold water yield a green milky concoction heavy with the taste of black licorice.  I strongly dislike the candy, but in this liquid form, it's amazing!

There's always money in the banana stand, and this Banana Stand is right on the money!

Swordfish Tom's

Swordfish Tom's is our favorite speakeasy in KCMO. Step one: find the door in the alley.  Step two: make your way downstairs and wait for the green light.  Step three: knock and wait to be admitted.  Step four: enjoy amazing craft cocktails created by Jill and served graciously by Tim.  We don't have many photos inside.  This is a place to be in the moment and enjoy great drinks and great company.

You don't have to turn on the red light.

You never know what you'll get when you ask for a dealer's choice.  Jill's was one of my top 3.  "Are you sure you like it peaty?"

Yes, yes I do!

Constitution

Yes, we've planned cross country trips around an evening at the Constitution in Lexington, KY.  There's very little info online about one of the best speakeasies we've found although there's a lot more now than we had on our first time there. "You're from St. Louis, how did you find us?"  I have a few hidden talents and finding fun places to get a drink is one. You'll likely need to figure out how to make a reservation these days. We won't spoil all the fun, but there are clues in these photos to help you enjoy your evening..

On a good night you forget to take notes and just be present

So many rare and antique books, but we were looking for a cocktail.

Ryan and Amy have created a cocktail oasis.  Great drinks!  Great service! A must stop when you're in Lexington, KY.
